About Us

Ski MK Race Team aims to offer a high standard of Alpine race coaching and we have a committed group of regular coaches.

SMK are a volunteer run independent ski race club based at Snozone Indoor Snow Centre, Xscape, Milton Keynes.

We hold weekly training sessions on Sunday mornings and Tuesday evenings to develop alpine ski race skills for all our members.  We train in groups according to age and try to maintain a maximum number of eight trainees per group as this provides suitable numbers to allow coaching feedback during the sessions.

Some members are just starting to learn the skills of racing whilst others are more experienced and members of national teams.

SMK is an affiliated club to Snowsport England (renewed November 2018) - click here for our affiliation certificate

SMK is located within and active as part of the ERSA Eastern Region Snowsports Association.

Who

Training is open to all, ages from 6 upwards. However we do not teach the basics of skiing and refer those with initial or limited skills to Snozone. Membership is based upon ability and every potential member must participate in a SMK Assessment Session unless they can demonstrate their racing capabilities without assessment (ie existing racer).

Assessment sessions must be booked in advance and they take place on the 1stSunday of every month (subject to confirmation and availability).

What Training Is Available

Training sessions are designed to support long term ski development and include a variety of skill development exercises and drills to improve techniques (with a concentration on fun).  The coaches assess the level of ability and try to accommodate all levels with each session.  Training will also include a variety of training within the facilities available, ie bumps and moguls, together with courses set to the appropriate age groups and abilities, on brushes, stubbie gates, transition junior gates and full gates.

SMK also host members only internal fun races throughout the year to introduce and develop race techniques and understand race protocol and conditions.  For details of the SMK Internal Race Series click over to our dedicated webpage.

Occasionally we run ski preparation workshops, officials training seminars and provide advice on equipment selection and sourcing.
